Removing Hasbro Paint From Figures Justin Butler & Jason Fleigel

Supplies

  • Goof-Off Cleaner
  • Q-Tips
  • Touch-up paint
    and brushes

We've discovered a quick way to remove the paint Hasbro uses for its action figure line. Goof-Off is a powerful, all-purpose cleaner that can be used to remove unwanted paint from action figures with little work required. A good use for Goof-Off is to remove the red from the Red Saga Clone Trooper from Episode 2 and as such we will use this as an example for this article.

Step 1

Buy a bottle of Goof-Off. It can be found at most hardware stores and places such as Wal-Mart..

Step 2

Find a well ventilated area. Goof-Off is some VERY strong smelling stuff, so remember to read the instructions on the bottle before using. Though the bottle will say that Goof-Off can damage plastic, that is only in large doses.

Step 3

Clean the figure you will be working with. A warm soapy bath is a good way to prepare for the work ahead. Be sure to completely dry the figure, too.

Step 4

Lightly dip a Q-Tip into the Goof-Off. Do not use too much or it can warp the plastic. Move the Q-Tip in a single direction. Moving it back and forth will result in the paint you are removing to become imbedded into the plastic. Thus, instead of having a white clone, you'll have a pink clone.

Step 5

Upon finishing removing the paint, clean the figure once more to make sure all the Goof-Off is completely gone.

Step 6

Check the figure for needed paint touch-ups from paint you unintentionally removed. For the example of the Red Clonetrooper you're likely to remove some black from the figure, thats ok as a nice flat black paint will do nicely for touchups.

Check out the pics below for before and after pics of the Red Clonetrooper to see how the Goof-Off does its job.
