Before you Begin:
Painting your figures is the most arduous task of the job. There is no better way to learn to paint than trial and error. A few handy tips include:
Step 1
Only dip the tip of the bristles into the paint, you really don't want to get paint up to the handle since this makes cleaning a lot more difficult and can ultimately ruin your brush.
Step 2
Use the smallest brush for the job - if a medium brush will do then go one smaller. It is always easier to paint a bit more onto the area than having to repaint over mistakes and losing detail.
Step 3
Keep a steady hand - if you are painting detail then embed the piece into a lump of Blu-Tack or plasticine, hold the lump in one hand, the brush in your dominant hand and rest your wrists together - this way if you start to shake or tremble then both of your hands and the figure shake all together.
Step 4
Keep your hands warm - a sure fire way to mess up your paint job is to lose circulation in your fingers. A small heater nearby or a cup of coffee will do the trick.
Step 5
Lastly, have an order to the way you paint your figures. I always start with the uniform first (usually this is all one color), and then do other areas of the same color, like black boots, gloves belts, etc... This way you're not constantly swapping brushes and paints so you won't forget where you've painted. Let it all dry and then go back and finish up the fine detail and cover up any mistakes.
Step 6
Flat paints are recommend over glosses since this is the way that Kenner makes their figures.
