mIRC Instructions
After you have installed mIRC you'll need this bit of information to join to the right server so you can find the #ffurg channel.
Locate the Options button on the toolbar and fill in the appropriate items.
Options 'Connect'
- Click 'Add', choose a name for the server like Webchat and fill in the server address in the next field - irc.webmaster.com. Then click 'OK'.
- While you are still under 'Connect' go ahead and fill in your Name, E-mail, Username, and backup Username.
- All other areas are optional so look through them and change what you feel comfortable with.
Channels Folder.
- Type in #ffurg and click 'Add'. This way you will be able to log onto the FFURG channel without typing the commands everytime. There is a way to automate this, but it is also optional and can be learned at a later time.
It is important once you've figured out how to get into the chat room some simple commands like /join, /part, /quit, and others. You can learn some basic commands at the mIRC Command List page.
Also, you may want to register your username so that no one can impersonate you. You don’t have to do this, but if you do just type in the following command:
/nickserv register (password) (valid e-mail address)
Where (password) is just that a password you use to identify yourself to the server by using the command: /nickserv identify (password). (valid e-mail address) must be a valid e-mail address so the server can send you a confirmation code. Remember not to input the parentheses () they are not needed. The chat server and it’s associated network will never give your e-mail address out to anyone. If they do please contact us at jason@ffurg.com and we’ll get on them asap.
Just play around with it and spend some time working with it. If you're still having problems come into #ffurg and someone there will help you.
I hope you now have the basic skills you need to access the server and log into the channel #ffurg. We look forward to seeing you there.
Agents
Since you're read this far you are interested in becoming a mIRC power user. What's better than chatting with your friends about your favorite subject? Have a robot read the text to you. This is very helpful when you want to listen to the converstation while you surf the web or hear what's going on while you're getting something from the fridge.
To download the Agents go to Microsoft Agent Home Page and get the agent software, then download the different agents like Peety, Merlin, Robby, and Genie. In my opinion Genie and Merlin are the best at normal sounding speach. You'll think it's weird when you first try it, but you'll be glad you installed it.
Once you've installed the Agent program and the Agent you want to you speak for you then start mIRC and open the "Options" section. Go to "Sound" and pull down the menu to select the Agent you've installed. If you need any help doing this go to the #ffurg room and someone there will help you. Almost all of us 'regulars' use the Agents.
There you now are a power user...
