PARTS

Sarlaac Pit by Keith Burgess

Supplies and Tools

  • 1 sheet of plywood (size is your choice)
  • 1 4ft piece of 1"x 2" lumber
  • 1 4" diameter funnel
  • 1 package of sculpey
  • 1 bag of playground sand
  • 2 bottles of scenic cement
  • 1 spray bottle
  • 1 newspaper
  • 1 box of aluminum foil
  • 1 large bottle of Elmer's glue
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 tube of 5 minute epoxy
Step 1

Take your plywood and lay your funnel where you want your Sarlaac to be and trace around it with a pencil.

Step 2

Now take a drawing compass and make another circle inside of the other circle about 1/4 inch smaller than the outer circle.

Step 3

Now you need to cut out the inner circle. (This will allow you to attach the funnel to the plywood later on.)

Step 4

Now you need to cut the 1"x 2" lumber into 4 equal 1ft pieces and attach them to the corners of the plywood. (It should now look like a table.)

Step 5

Next you need to wad up some of your aluminum foil and place them at random intervals around the top of the plywood and tape them down. This will help form your landscape.

Step 6

Now take the mixing bowl and mix 1/2 cup of Elmer's glue and 1/2 cup of water.

Step 7

Now cut your newspaper into strips and dip them into the glue mixture and apply to the surface of the project and over the foil wads.

Step 8

Take the funnel now and apply your sculpey to the inside of it to form the Sarlaac itself. When you are done you need to put the funnel with the sculpey still inside it, into a pot of boiling water to cure the clay.

Step 9

When the clay is hard and dry you need to paint it to look like the Sarlaac.

Step 10

Now that the clay and the paper mache are both dry you need to turn the "table" upside down and use the epoxy to attach the funnel to the cutout.

Step 11

Lastly you need to turn the playset right side up and take your scenic cement and spray the whole tabletop and then sprinkle the playground sand over it in very thin coats. Repeat this step until you reach the desired look and enjoy.
