Before you begin:

  • There is a big problem with compatibility of posts and sockets on this figure, so that will have to be addressed first.

Step 1

Head. Dremel the Joe neck post into a cylinder that will fit into the Troopers armor. Keep in mind that the top of the neck by the jaw will need to be wider than the part that goes into the neck hole! Once you have made the post fit, heat the bottom of the post very lightly with a lighter and press it against a block of scrap wood to make it flair out on the end. Test fit the head in the separated torso to see if it will fall out. You may need to repeat this several times to get a flair that will hold the head in the body.

Step 2

Arms. The left arm will need to have the post cut off the Wing Commander arm and a post from a Stormtrooper arm will need to be glued on in it's place. It is best to drill a hole in the center of the post and another in the shoulder of the Wing Commander arm so that you can insert a thin plastic rod like a dowel pin to make the joint stronger.

Step 3

Right Arm. Cut off the glove from the Wing Commander arm and from the Tie Pilot arm and glue the Wing Commander glove on the Tie Pilot Arm. Again, this will be stronger if you use a dowel between the glove and the arm.

Step 4

Waist. You will need to remove a little bit of the plastic in the inside of the Troopers body so that the waist post from the Tie Pilot will fit into the Troopers armor.

Step 5

Glue the body back together.

Step 6

Wash figure in Dawn Dishsoap to remove all of your greasy finger residue. Let dry.

Step 7

Spraypaint figure with Kyrlon Ultra Flat Black Spray Paint. Let dry.

Step 8

I painted this figure using Delta Paint. The colors were Grey, white, black, and flesh. The technique I used was drybrushing...there are articles by myself and others at the FFURG detailing this process.

Step 9

I painted the chest and arm armor and helmet with 5 drybush coats of white. Paint the exposed face flesh. Last, paint the buckle and belt buttons silver as well as the snaps and buckles on the arms. Let dry.

Step 10

Paint the face details...there are several good articles at the FFURG on painting eyes!

Step 11

Topcote with Testors Brand Dullcote clear sealant.
