C-3PO with Removable Leg by Zobovor

Figure Supplies

  • C-3PO (Removable Limbs is ideal; I used Purchase of the Droids)
  • A COMMtech figure stand

Supplies and Tools

  • X-Acto knife
  • Power drill
  • Superglue
  • Modeling putty (optional)
  • Metal file
  • A plastic pick-up stick (shish kabob stick will work too)
  • Paints
    -Gold
    -Flat black
Step 1

To cut C-3PO's leg off at the knee joint, carefully score along the outer > perimeter with your X-acto knife. Cut about 1/8" into his leg, all the way around. When you can wiggle his knee back and forth slightly, go ahead and break it off and file down both ends. (Also, with Purchase of the Droids C-3PO, slice off the restraining bolt.)

Step 2

Drill three holes: One into the inside of his upper leg, one into his lower leg, and one into his left palm. Be very careful with his palm because it is very easy to drill clean through his hand. The hole should be the same diameter as your pick-up stick.

Step 3

Chop off a 1/2" section of the pick-up stick and glue the end into his lower leg.

Step 4

Paint the broken part of his lower leg and upper leg a flat black color, and repaint the palm of his hand as well.

Step 5 (optional)

Since his foot is suddenly subject to greater scrutiny, use modeling putty to fill the hole in his heel and get rid of the Hasbro logo. Once it dries, slice tiny grooves going horizontally with an X-Acto
knife to make the bottom of his foot authentic, then paint it gold.

Step 6 (optional)

To make him REALLY authentic, he needs the blast mark in his chest where the stormtrooper blasted him on Bespin. Using the drill, create a slight dent (but not a hole) in his left breast, then put a small amount of putty around the dent to create a crater. After the putty dries, paint the blast mark flat black.

Step 7 (optional)

C-3PO should be slightly dirty at this point, so depending on which figure you used you will have to paint him gold to replace the metalized gold. When the paint is semi-dry, you can dab it with your thumb to make it even less shiny. Drybrush a small amount of brown on his forehead, chest, arms, and legs.

You now have a C-3PO with Removable Leg, ready to complain that he's standing there in pieces while R2-D2 is having delusions of grandeur!
