I just received a huge parts lot of G.I Joes from an ebay auction. It could not be seen in the pictures but many of the heads had seen the business end of a lighter nono.gif while the figures are not melted they are stained with burn mark I was hoping some one would have info on how to remove the mark aside from painting over it.

Smoke damage or actual carbon scorching? Simplest bet would be to start with something like methanol or ethanol, progress to nail polish remover (non-acetone), before going to the harsher solvents like pure acetone, minearl spirits, and turpentine.....

probably would, but he did say "parts lot" I'd assume they were for customs, so I'd only woryabout damage to the plastic pieces not paint. However if he's worried about the paint to he might try denture cleaner tablets, I have had good look with those on many different types of stains on figures and parts. Don't think I've ever tryed to remove smut stains with it though.

No, it won't remove the paint if you're talking about using a q-tip and scraping...If you dunk it, well yeah, than it will. And I did say progressively move towards the stronger solvents....It is a matter of choice of what is least objectionable, the burn mark or repainting....

No, rather go for my strong bases first graduated.gif (do much more damage to the tissues)
