Because I'm currently working on a stop motion fan film based on Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross's comic Marvels, I am going to be making a lot of customs for this project. Because a lot of these figures will be pretty mundane and uninteresting, so I'll put them all in one thread instead of creating a new thread for each figure.

Here's a couple of mundane but necessary customs for my Marvels film project.

First up is a truck featuring an ad for the latest headline from the Daily Bugle.

RECIPE:

Entire Truck: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Rollbar

Here is an odd but necessary custom- the drunk hobo roaming the street as Galactus threatens to demolish the Earth. Check out the reference photo to see what he looks like.

RECIPE:

Head: WWE Matt Striker
Body: Mezco Friday the 13th 2009 Jason

Now that I've bought some Apoxie Sculpt and some sculpting tools, I'm going to finally start experimenting and honing down my sculpting skills. Starting small, here is the figure I've started with- the X-Men's Cyclops in formal wear (I sculpted the tie, very simple start). I mean, he doesn’t wear the spandex all the time.

RECIPE

Head: X-Men Classics Angel
Body: Movie Masters Joker Thug
Glasses: Wonder Woman Diana Prince
Hands: NECA Harry Potter

Very, very quick and simple but necessary I did for the fan film. I used Playmates Star Trek Parts because the body was PERFECT. In the film I'll use photoshop to fix the scale.

RECIPE

Head and Hands: Star Trek Generation Soran
Body: Star Trek TNG Q

Here's the next figure in my growing collection of Golden Age Marvel customs, one of the darkest of the earliest heroes- The Destroyer.

RECIPE

Heat + Body: DCUC Doctor Impossible
Hands: Spider-Man Classics Hands
Belt: Star Trek 2009 Kirk
Ears: Star Trek 2009 Original Spock

Last customs for the summer!

Here is a set of figures featured in a scene of Marvels, a prophetic future where Homo Superior has overrun all of mankind and has enslaved humans is a most tyrannical fashion.

Due to the very small glimpse of this character you see in the graphic novel, I commissioned artwork from artist J-Man (see his DeviantArt page- http://dutchovensupreme.deviantart.com/) in order to get a full view of her. The concept art:

RECIPE:

Head, Torso, Legs, Gloves: Indiana Jones Irena Spalko
Arms: GI Joe Rise of Cobra Baroness
Whip: Indiana Jones figure

A Male Human Slave

RECIPE:

Head: Star Wars Lt. Sunber
Torso + Legs: Indiana Jones Mutt Williams
Arms: Wolverine Movie Logan
Feet: Indiana Jones Ugha

And a Female Slave

RECIPE

Head, Torso, Legs: GI Joe Rise of Cobra Scarlett
Arms, Feet: GI Joe Rise of Cobra Cover Girl

Hey all. After a long absence brought on by a tough semester, I was finally able to finish not one, not two, but three custom figures.

Here is a custom of George Stacey, the heroic yet ill-fated father of the equally ill-fated Gwen.

RECIPE

Head: Marvel Legends 5 Mr. Fantastic
Body: Movie Masters Joker
Hands: Star Trek 2009 Old Spock
Cane: Marvel Legends Adam Strange with the top of a sewing pin.

Next up is the first figure that I will do of a young John Jonah Jameson from Marvels (as pictured above), this time clad in a trenchcoat. A suited version will come shortly.

RECIPE:

Head: Ant Man Head Cast
Body: Buffy Spike Figure
Hands: NECA Harry Potter

Finally, here is a very quick custom of Namor, seen very quickly in a very small image from Marvels, but I really like the image of Namor looking like this so I made the figure.

RECIPE

Head: GI Joe 25th Cobra Commander
Body: Indiana Jones Cemetery Warrior
Feet: Indiana Jones Ugha Warrior
Wings: Marvel Universe Namor

As my last batch of customs for 2009, here's a trilogy of figures that happened to get finished right at the same time.

Here is Jim Hammond, the original, non-Fantastic Human Torch in his deactivated form.

RECIPE

Head: Face-Off Captain America Head Cast
Body: HML Scarlet Spider

Here is a simple custom of Bolivar Trask, the racist madman who created the robot menace known as the Sentinels.

RECIPE

Head Cast: Flash Gordon Prince Barin
Body: WWE Deluxe Aggression Matt Striker

This is a frequently made custom amongst Marvel fans, but it's always been one I've wanted to tackle. Here is the menacing Red Skull in his original Golden Age glory.

RECIPE

Head: Head Cast
Body: LCBH Madman

It might not be the best idea to start the new year out with a couple of "boring" customs, but here's a couple of civilian characters I made for my Marvels fan film project. Don't worry, I have some supers coming up next.

Here is a really simple figure of a minor character in the comic, just a normal manager of a normal nightclub.

RECIPE:

Head: Punisher Movie Head Cast
Body: Angel Lorne

Here's the first version of Young Phil I've completed, which is kind of a boring one, but nevertheless here's Phil as he's recovering from his wounds photographing the battle between Namor and the Human Torch.

Head: Star Trek 2009 Movie Kirk
Body: Buffy Spike

Another work in the field of the golden age, here is the patriotic lass of the All-Winners Squad. I was going to get a bit more creative with the parts choice, but when I saw the Lois figure I realized that it looked almost exactly like Miss America, so I didn't have much of a choice.

RECIPE:

Entire figure: Silver Age Superman Lois

Here is a set I've gradually worked on for about a year. Straight from Marvels, here are five mannequins used in a display to promote a fashion line based on the look of the Avenger wasp.

First, a reference scan:

Figure 1:

Head; Buffy Deluxe Faith
Body and Logo: Infinite Crisis Donna Troy

Figure 2:

Head: GI Joe ROC Baroness
Body: One Piece anime PVC figure

Figure 3:

Head: Infinite Heroes Black Canary
Body: Star Wars TAC Padme
Wings: Star Wars Geonosian Warrior

Figure 4:

Head: Infinite Heroes Black Canary
Arms and Torso: Indiana Jones Marion
Wings: Star Wars Sun Fac
Legs: GI Joe ROC Cover Girl
Feet; GI Joe ROC Baroness

Figure 5:

This figure may not be a whole lot to look at, but this was the last figure I was able to complete before I went back to finish the semester. Here is the persistent Senator Byrd, convinced that Tony Stark is a real menace to society who must be brought down with legal means.

RECIPE:

Head: Star Trek 2009 Pike
Body: Angel Wesley

Back for the summer with two new figures.

Here is the second figure I have made of a much, much younger version of the irritable J. Jonah Jameson, this time in a slick suit.

RECIPE

Head: Ant Man Head Cast
Body: Dark Knight Joker Thug
Hands: Star Trek 2009 Kirk
Fedora: The Shadow movie Ninja Shadow

Here's a custom of Namor's mother, Princess Fen of Atlantis. I know she's not in Marvels, but I decided to make both a male and a female Atlantean to pilot the vehicles in the scene where Namor invades New York.

RECIPE:

Head and Feet: Lord of the Rings Coronation Arwen
Body: Buffy Princess Cordelia

Sacré bleu! Batroc the Leaper, everyone's favorite foot-boxing supervillian, is alive in his customized glory!

RECIPE:

Entire figure: Spider-Man Classics Tarantula
Feet: Spider-Man Classics Spider-Man

To go along with my Formal Cyclops for the sculpture exhibit scene, here's the future Phoenix herself in all her stylish glory.

RECIPE:

Head: Watchmen Classic Silk Spectre
Body: Buffy Prom

Here is a figure based on Phil's trusty assistant during the twilight years of his career, Marcia Hardesty.

RECIPE:

Head: Rachel Summers headcast
Body: Chosen Buffy
Glasses: NECA Harry Potter

Here was a simple custom idea- no sculpting, no kit-bashing, and the only paint colors needed were black and white. No, I'm not copping out, I'm creating plastic versions of the marble statues of Alicia Masters, ally of the Fantastic Four and sculptor extraordinaire.

On another note, sorry for the poorer quality of pictures this time. The white figures wouldn't work with the white light tent I have, so I used a different setup this time.

RECIPE:

The Thing- ML First Appearance Thing with DC Direct Base
Iron Man- Iron Man 2 classic Iron Man with DC Infinite Heroes base.

I already mentioned this in my trade thread, but in case any of you are following my custom-making here I'll announce this again. Two weeks ago I canceled the Marvels fan film project I had planned to complete. It was a combination of both the project being far to ambitious and time consuming for my resources and of me reevaluating the priorities in my life. As my customs for the past two years have all been geared towards this project, I will be taking an indefinite break from customizing following the completion of the figures I had already begun (there's still three more to finish after the ones in this post). I'm not leaving the hobby, just distancing myself from it for a bit.

Anyway, what you are actually here for- today's customs.

Professor Horton, the misguided yet brilliant inventor of the Human Torch, is now a plastic custom creation.

RECIPE

Head: Star Trek 2009 Spock Prime
Body: Mezco Austin Powers
Ears: The Spirit Movie Spirit
Hands: Star Trek 2009 Captain Kirk

Yet another pair of extremely beyond obscure characters from a single panel from a single issue of one graphic novel- two snotty rich women are not only disgusted with Homo Superior but also think the appearance of the heroic Thing is distasteful.

Thanks to pbarney to the suggestions I applied to this custom.

RECIPE:

Head: Trigate Customs Head Cast
Body: Breha Organa

RECIPE:

Head: Trigate Customs Head Cast
Body: Padme Naboo Senator

We all need a break. Just remember, projects never die, they just get shelved until we need to go crazy again. unsure.gif

the film idea may have been too ambitious, but, with what you have now, how hard would it be to do a photonovel? you already have the storyboard in the original comics, it'd just be a matter of matching up the shots smile.gif
at least then all this work won't be for nothing smile.gif

^Lol all this work wasn't for nothing, since I had fun doing them all. Thanks for the idea though. I'm still almost finished putting together the photogallery of the manips I made for this project, and I still might do a motion-comic like trailer for the planned trailer. Still, I've kind of put this project too far behind me to begin doing anything as ambitious as a full-length photonovel.

Anyway, As I said in my last update, I had three partially initiated and unfinished customs left over from my canceled project that I couldn't help but finish. Here's two of them.

Here is the youngest member of the Daily Bugle trio from the first chapter of Marvels- Iggy, a slightly annoying cub reporter who is nonetheless indispensable to J. Jonah Jameson and Phil Sheldon.

RECIPE:

Head: Iceman Head Cast
Body: Figma Kyon
Hat: Item from Trade

She may not be initially recognizable without a "4" logo or a transparent appendage, but I decided to make a figure of the Invisible Woman as she changed her name from Storm to Richards.

RECIPE:

Head: Power Girl head cast
Body: LOTR Coronation Arwen
Feet: Angel Princess Cordelia

^Lol. The Arwen figure as a base might've been a bit out of scale blushing.gif

Anyway, I just put up the gallery for all of the photo mock-ups I did for the planned and cancelled Marvels fan film. Many of the customs in this thread and ones that I've posted are in there Here is the link- http://sheldonsgallery.tumblr.com/ . Just in case you were interested in what the final film might've looked like if everything went as planned.
