how does the paint hold up in the joints? I've been a little disappointed when using GI Joe figures for customs because I can't get the paint to stay in the joints very well.

As long as you NEVER move the joints the paint holds up fine. Would a sealant make a difference to make the joints still useable??? dry.gif

This applies to the elbo joint only, the shoulder is still screwed...but I find boiling it taking it apart and actually shaving a bit of it off, not sanding, helps. Than painting the joint with one thin coat in both extended and flexed position. But that isn't 100% effective.

I haven't had much luck at popping out the arms (which means cracking the torso). How have you done it here?

To pop out the arms I use the screwdriver technique, similar to what Hasbro recommends. Warning: The following technique could cause injury, Please use CAUTION:

1st-Etch around the seems of the Torso with a blade or exacto knife. Mainly under the arms and about half down the torso. You can go deep on the etch as anything you scratch up can be fixed.

2nd-Turn the torso up towards you till you see a gap between the upper and lower halves of the torso.

3rd-Place a flat head screwdriver in that gap and into the hole in the body where the peg enters.

4th- Twist the screwdriver clockwise. This may not work on the first try. Look to see if you need to etch more or put more pressure when twisting.

The is a chance of breaking the torso when using this technique. The is also a chance that the screwdriver will slip out so be mindful of your hands.

Very nice. Are those 25th Anniversary Duke legs? My only suggestion, he needs a knife and sheath.

Now that I think about it I may have used the Duke body from the Redstar comic pack. I have had the figure done for a little while so I forget what i used. What i really want to add to him is his machette.

I had read on a site somewhere about coating the joint in super glue then painting or visa verse. Has anyone else heard of the super glue meathod?

I used that method on my Clonewars Obi-Wan recently (paint, then coat w/glue). The problem I found was discoloration of the paint once the glue is applied. Still, it seemed to work, although the joint was tighter (due to the glue thinkness)

That's a nice update. Got a hydrofoil for him or going to put him in the updated Water Mocassin (can't call it whatever they call it now).

Wow! Not a custom I woulda thought of doing, but he turned out great. He's very reminiscent of the original Lampreys figure. Excellent work with the colors.

I used 2 differnt shades of gray from Appelbarrel paints and a Testor silver to make the jumpsuit. Two shades of blue for the rest. When I get the chance I'll post the exact colors. Thanks.

Techno Viper

Head-Cast of original
Torso/arms- HISS Driver
Lower legs-HISS Driver
Upper Legs & belt- B.A.T

MainFrame modifications

I gave him the head from the White Endor Soldier and paint his hair light brown. Replaced his hands with Firefly's. Gave him the Helmet from Medalert of the DTC line. Not too sure if I like the helmet, so any suggestion or ideas are welcome.

Hit & Run

I made one about a year ago and it did not get great reviews so here is a more updated version.

Head & helmet-Target Bravo soldier line
Arms-Duke
Torso and legs-??Don't remeber??
Straps-Comic Destro Resolute & Clone Wars Obi-Wan
Bag-Drilled into a bad from the 21st Century paratrooper line and feed the rope inside.

James,

I'm going to be sad when this thread jumps to the next page because I so enjoy seeing Muskrat everytime I check out your updates! The TechnoViper looks really good and the modifications to Mainframe are great. I probably like Hit & Run best of all, but there is something odd about him that I can't quite put my finger on. It might be that the neck post is a bit too long, but it's hard to say. The paint apps are great and I really like the rope line coming from the bag. Happy customizing!

Techno Viper, fine, leave as is.

Mainframe: Try adding a Marine Corps symbol to the helmet. That's really what is "missing".

Hit-n-Run: You do know about the upcoming 7 pack? The neck is way too long. Giraffe Man going on there.

I will fix the head, neck. From different angles it looks good. It might be the way I set him up for the photo. I do know of the Hit & Run Hasbro is doing and I am not really happy with it. If I get that set I will fix up Hasbro's mess. I hate the web gear they gave him.
