Greetings all! I was wondering if anyone has disassembled a R2-D2 3 1/2 figure before to customize it? I know how to do regular figures with the "Boil and pop" method, but the R2 units are glued on the seams and seem very hard to take apart. Any help in this would be much appreciated!

Thanks and may the Force be with you all...

Well it is mentioned here...

http://www.ffurg.com/basics/dissasembling_..._astromechs.htm

If you're going to swap heads (say put an R5 head cast on an R2 body), I just found that using a nut cracker or pliers and smashing the head off works just as effective. Dremel flat the lips, and glue on the new head.

Also, this is the critiques, there is a Tips and Tricks area that this should go in for the future.

There are a few models that the standard boil and pop works on -- For example the E2 sneak preview R3 mold. Boil, remove the legs, then use a pliers to pull the torso apart from the 3rd leg hole.

Thanks much! I don't know why but I I did not see that when I looked on the site! I think I clicked to fast or something. Thanks though for the extra info as well.
